MARDAP-Mannar Association for Rehabilitation of Differently Abled People was commenced in Mannar (Sri Lanka) District in October 2002 with the invitation of Bishop of Mannar and the concent of Government Agent of Mannar. Our service is mainly Commnuity Based Rehabilitation (CBR).
While I was visiting the d and isabled people in their respective houses I also selected some Volunteers from the community. Preferrence was given to the persons especially families where disabled persons are there.
There are Five Assistant Government Agent Divisions in Mannr District. First we consentrated in Ona division namely Mannar Division.

- Our Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) service was started with 7 CBR workers in Mannar Division. In order to strengthen our service we formed a Governing Body. We also registered under Voluntary Service Organization act in District Secretariat, and our Registered No.is MN/SS/VOR/01. As we were visiting the families of disabled, there was request from the parents that their children who are mentally challenged and those who are hearing and speech impairment are not able to go to the normal school or not accepted in the school because of their disability. Their desire was that we should do something for their children for their future. So we started a Day Care Centre and Special Education. Now there are about 26 children come for their studies. They are given speech therapy, physiotherapy, teaching art, reading, writing, play etc. Children are assessed for their activities. Parent’s meetings takes place every month to see their children’s progress.
